Yard Waste Bin Rental in Ajax & the GTA

Garden clearing produces an odd kind of waste: almost weightless, impossibly bulky, and full of things that spring back out of the bin if you are not careful. It is also the project where the line between what we can take and what we cannot matters most.

Choosing a size

Green waste is fine. Soil is not.

This is the important part of the page, so it is worth being blunt about it. Branches, brush, hedge trimmings, leaves, shrubs, old fence panels and deck boards are all fine. Dirt, soil and sod are not, and neither are concrete or brick — which on a landscaping job means patio stones, pavers and edging as well. Clearing a garden bed is straightforward; removing the bed itself is a different job needing a different arrangement. If a shrub is coming out with the roots, knock the soil off before it goes in and you are back on the right side of the line.

What goes in

What fits in a yard waste bin

  • Branches, limbs and brush
  • Hedge trimmings, prunings and leaves
  • Shrubs and small stumps, soil knocked off
  • Old fence panels, posts and lattice
  • Deck boards, railings and pergola framing
  • Garden furniture, planters and trellis
What stays out

What we can’t take

To put the exclusions plainly one more time, because landscaping is where they bite hardest: no soil, no sod, no fill, no concrete, no patio stone or paver. Those are the materials that make a bin too heavy to lift safely, and no size of bin changes that.

Planning

Getting more into a green-waste bin

Cut branches shorter than you want to

Long limbs bridge across the bin and hold a cavity of air underneath. Cutting to a metre or so can easily double what fits.

Shake the roots out

Soil clinging to a root ball is both the heaviest thing in the load and the one thing we cannot take. Knock it off into the garden where it belongs.

Put brush in before the bulky items

Springy material compresses under weight. Loose on top it just rises back up and you lose the top third of the bin.

Keep the soil pile well away from the bin

If there is a dirt heap beside an open bin, some of it ends up in the bin. Separating them at the start avoids an awkward conversation at pickup.

Questions

Yard waste bin rental — FAQs

Can I put soil or sod in a yard waste bin?

No. Soil, sod and fill are excluded from every bin we run, along with concrete and brick — the reason is weight, not fussiness. Green waste is welcome; the ground it grew in is not.

What size bin suits a garden clear-out?

A 10-yard handles most residential garden clearing, including a fair amount of hedge work. Taking out a long fence line or a large deck at the same time is where the 14-yard starts to make sense.

Can I put a small stump in?

A small stump with the soil knocked off is fine. A large root ball still packed with earth is not, and the difference is mostly how much effort went into shaking it out.

What about old patio stones and pavers?

Those count as brick and block, so they cannot go in. It is the most common surprise on a landscaping job, which is why it is worth planning for before the bin arrives rather than on the day.
