14 Yard Bin Rental in Ajax & the GTA

Most renovation jobs in the GTA land on a 14-yard bin, and there is a good reason for it. It carries enough to get a kitchen, a bathroom or a roof off the property in one go, while still leaving somebody room to park behind it.

The trade-off every homeowner makes is between having enough bin and still being able to live in the house while the work happens. Fourteen yards is where that balance usually sits. It is noticeably more capacity than the 10, without the length of the 20, so a second car can generally still get past and the neighbours do not spend three weeks looking at a wall of steel.

Right job, right bin

Best for

Kitchen and bathroom renovations

Cabinets, counters, tile, a tub and the drywall behind all of it.

Roofing tear-offs

Shingles are heavy for their bulk, so a mid-size bin suits them better than a large one.

Basement finishing and additions

Steady output over a few weeks rather than one big dump.

Deck and interior demolition

Old boards, railings, framing and fixtures from a single area.

Doing one of these? We have a guide for renovations or roof tear-offs.

What goes in

What fits in a 14-yard bin

This is the size that suits mixed renovation debris — the sort of load where no single material dominates:

  • Asphalt shingles and roofing felt
  • Drywall, plaster, tile and backer board
  • Kitchen cabinets, counters and vanities
  • Hardwood, laminate, carpet and underlay
  • Framing lumber, trim, doors and baseboard
  • Tubs, sinks, fixtures and old built-ins
Capacity

About 6–7 pickup-truck loads

Measured against the same yardstick as the rest of our range, the 14-yard swallows six to seven half-ton loads. In practice a single-storey roof tear-off or a full kitchen strip tends to land inside one bin, with a bit left over for whatever the crew finds behind the walls — and something always turns up behind the walls.

Delivery & placement

Driveway fit and placement

A 14-yard bin suits a standard single driveway, which is the main argument for it over the 20. It still needs room behind for the truck to roll it off and clear overhead space, but the margins are more forgiving. If the surface is new or recently sealed, mention it — boards under the rollers are a two-minute job on arrival and save an argument later.

Permits are the question we get most often, and the answer is simpler than people expect. A bin on your driveway needs no permit at all. Only street placement brings the municipality into it, so check with yours before booking if the driveway will not work — for Ajax addresses that is the Town of Ajax, and neighbouring municipalities each handle it their own way.

How long the bin can stay is best agreed at the outset rather than assumed — ask about rental length when you book, and the dates are settled before a single shingle comes off.

Before you load it

What we can’t take

Whatever the size, dirt and soil, concrete, and brick or block have to go somewhere else. They are many times denser than renovation waste, and a bin loaded with them exceeds what it is rated to carry.

Questions

14-yard bin FAQs

Is a 14-yard bin big enough for a roof tear-off?

For most single-storey GTA homes, yes, and it is the size we send out for roofing more than any other. Steep roofs, two layers of old shingles or a larger footprint can push it over, so describe the roof when you call rather than guessing from the square footage.

How much does a 14-yard bin hold?

Around six to seven pickup-truck loads. The easiest way to picture it is a full kitchen — cabinets, counters, flooring and the drywall behind them — with room to spare.

Will it fit in a single-car driveway?

Usually. A 14-yard bin is the largest size we would confidently put on a single driveway, and the deciding factor is normally the length of the driveway rather than its width. Tell us roughly how many cars park end to end and we can call it before the truck leaves.

Can the bin sit on grass or a gravel pad?

Solid, level ground is what we need. Grass and soft gravel can rut badly under a loaded bin, especially after rain, so a driveway or a compacted pad is the safer choice. If neither exists, call and we will work out what is possible on site.

Do I need a permit?

Not for a bin on your own driveway. Street placement is the only case that involves the municipality, and it is worth sorting before delivery day — in Ajax, through the Town of Ajax.

How many days do I get with it?

Rental length is worth settling at the booking stage rather than mid-job. Renovation schedules slip more than roofing ones do, so pin the dates down before the first wall comes out.
